Happy Halloween!

Elsa Lanchester in the title role of The Bride of Frankenstein, 1935

Tune in Friday afternoon for Foley's annual Halloween show—filled with all sorts of devilish delights and macabre and spine-tingling musical selections...

Halloween highlights on Friday's Classical Music With Foley Schuler include a visit to a wild witches' sabbath by way of music of Mussorgsky, as well as the "Ghost Trio" by Beethoven and Three Ghost Rags by William Bolcom. We'll hear an orchestral work inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's iconic poem, "The Raven" and a suite from what is widely recognized as one of the first and greatest full symphonic horror scores in cinema history, Franz Waxman's evocative music for the 1935 horror film classic The Bride of Frankenstein...and much more. Rounding out the program will be a tribute to beloved actor Sir Patrick Stewart who has just passed away at 86, with this legend of stage and screen serving as narrator in Prokofiev's musical fairy tale for children (of all ages), Peter and the Wolf.

You can hear Foley Schuler's musical selections—and stories behind the music—every weekday afternoon on blue Lake Public Radio.

Encouraged by creative parents, Foley began his music career at age 7, studying violin with Jean Manning at North Muskegon Public Schools. As a Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp camper, he became Blue Lake Public Radio’s first high school intern. Foley earned an English Literature degree from Hope College, and Masters in Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from the Warren Wilson College. He has performed with the West Michigan (formerly West Shore) Symphony; served on the English Department faculty at Muskegon Community College, and been the Music, Art & Theatre reviewer for the Muskegon Chronicle. He follows his love of the arts around the globe, but says, “There is no place like the Blue Lake setting, sharing extraordinary music with our listeners.” Foley hosts Blue Lake Public Radio’s weekday classical music from 1 to 4 p.m. and “Sunday on Blue Lake”.
