Nicknamed "God's Tenor," legendary Canadian operatic star Jon Vickers was one of the great voices of the 20th Century. We'll feature that voice in the music of Mahler in honor of the singer's centennial on Thursday's Classical Music with Foley Schuler.
Another major highlight of the program will be a selection from the original cast recordings of Leonard Bernstein's brilliant setting for the musical stage of Voltaire's Candide, which premiered in Boston on October 29, 1956—making Thursday the iconic work's 70th anniversary.
Finally, we'll also hear music from the dynamic musical duo of cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han—Co-Artistic Directors of Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center—who return to Grand Rapids Thursday evening with other members of CMS for the opening concert of the Chamber Music Series at St. Cecilia Music Center (and don't forget—you can listen on demand to Foley's interview Wu Han here.)
