The West Michigan Symphony: "Superheroes at the Symphony"

Tune in this Sunday at 1 pm for the next in our series broadcast concerts by the West Michigan Symphony. Foley Schuler hosts, as part of his Sunday on Blue Lake program.

Presented as part of Sunday on Blue Lake, our series of broadcast concerts by the West Michigan Symphony features concerts from the orchestra's 2025-26 Classical Masterworks Series—and continues this week with the concert from January 30, 2026 at Muskegon's Frauenthal Theater, as Music Director Scott Speck leads a program celebrating music’s power to transport us on epic adventures and emotional journeys. We’ll visit the mythic worlds and experience the legendary themes of cinematic superheroes —Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Spider-Man— along with two symphonic masterpieces that inspired the iconic film scores.

Then, in the final hour of the program, host Foley Schuler will pay tribute to legendary conductor Leopold Stokowski and his longtime association with the Philadelphia Orchestra, in honor of the anniversary of the first time he conducted the celebrated ensemble, October 11, 1912—inlcuding several historic recordings, as well as a musical tribute to the flamboyant maestro by one of today's leading composers.

You can hear Sunday on Blue Lake with Foley Schuler every Sunday afternoon from 1 until 4 pm on Blue Lake Public Radio.

Encouraged by creative parents, Foley began his music career at age 7, studying violin with Jean Manning at North Muskegon Public Schools. As a Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp camper, he became Blue Lake Public Radio’s first high school intern. Foley earned an English Literature degree from Hope College, and Masters in Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from the Warren Wilson College. He has performed with the West Michigan (formerly West Shore) Symphony; served on the English Department faculty at Muskegon Community College, and been the Music, Art & Theatre reviewer for the Muskegon Chronicle. He follows his love of the arts around the globe, but says, “There is no place like the Blue Lake setting, sharing extraordinary music with our listeners.” Foley hosts Blue Lake Public Radio’s weekday classical music from 1 to 4 p.m. and “Sunday on Blue Lake”.
