The West Michigan Symphony: "Orchestra's Greatest Hits"

Foley Schuler, as part of his Sunday on Blue Lake program this week, will host the first in a new 5 week season of broadcast concerts by the West Michigan Symphony, beginning Sunday at 1 pm.

Presented as part of Sunday on Blue Lake, our series of broadcast concerts by the West Michigan Symphony will feature the orchestra's 2025-26 Classical Masterworks Series—and beging with the series opening concert from November 14, 2025, as Music Director Scott Speck leads a program selected by popular patron vote, opening with Rossini's William Tell Overture and closing with Antonín Dvořák's beloved Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, "From the New World." In between piano sensation Charlie Albright dazzles the audience with Sergei Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.

Then, in the final hour of the program, host Foley Schuler will pay tribute to highly influential and acclaimed American composer Steve Reich upon his 90th birthday this weekend with music from two of the composer masterworks, Different Trains (featuring the Kronos Quartet) and the landmark work that helped change to change the course of modern music, his Music for 18 Musicians, from the original 1976 recording featuring the Steven Reich Ensemble.

You can hear Sunday on Blue Lake with Foley Schuler every Sunday afternoon from 1 until 4 pm on Blue Lake Public Radio.

Encouraged by creative parents, Foley began his music career at age 7, studying violin with Jean Manning at North Muskegon Public Schools. As a Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp camper, he became Blue Lake Public Radio’s first high school intern. Foley earned an English Literature degree from Hope College, and Masters in Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from the Warren Wilson College. He has performed with the West Michigan (formerly West Shore) Symphony; served on the English Department faculty at Muskegon Community College, and been the Music, Art & Theatre reviewer for the Muskegon Chronicle. He follows his love of the arts around the globe, but says, “There is no place like the Blue Lake setting, sharing extraordinary music with our listeners.” Foley hosts Blue Lake Public Radio’s weekday classical music from 1 to 4 p.m. and “Sunday on Blue Lake”.
