He fused blues with gospel, a no-no hailing the carnate along with the incarnate, creating hugely popular soul music. And he loved jazz. Not only Nat King Cole, but especially Dizzy and Bird. Like his boyhood friend Quincy Jones, Ray Charles could play anything.
