On Monday afternoon's Classical Music With Foley Schuler, we showcase the music of Gustav Holst (born on September 21, 1874) with his most famous work—the celebrated orchestra suite The Planets—along with another gem or two from the pen of the great English composer and beloved teacher.
Dubbed the "Ravel of his generation" by the New York Times, Michel Torke has emerged as one of the leading American composers of our time. In honor of his 65th birthday, we'll hear one of two of the series of brilliant orchestral works based on various colors that initially launched him to international attention, as well as a more recent work, his 2019 Sky: A Concerto for Violin and Orcehstra, in which he blends the worlds of classical music and bluegrass to dazzling affect.
