On Friday afternoon's Classical Music With Foley Schuler we offer a belated birthday celebration of one of the great supserstars of the violin—and classical music in general—of our time, Itzhak Perlman, who turned 81 on August 31.
Throughout the program we'll enjoy a wide range of his recordings from over the years,
including some of the violinist's earliest recordings (that finally saw the light of day decades later with Itzhak Perlman: reDiscovered) and some of his iconic work for film, as Perlman performs one of his musical signatures, the main theme from Schindler's List. We'll hear him in dazzling showcases unaccompanied violin by Bach and Paganini, and in the final hour Foley will feature one of his personal favorite of Perlman's recordings, as he teams up with the Isreal Philharmonic for the Violin Concerto by Aram Khachaturian.
