With the new documentary Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World just premiered earlier this week (as part of the American Masters series on PBS) and now streaming on demand, we will explore music inspired by this most beloved of American poets and celebrant and explorer of the natural world on this afternoon's Classical Music With Foley Schuler. This will included a 2006 choral work, Why I Wake Early, by composer Ronald Perera that sets eight poems by the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet to music. We'll also take two of Oliver's music-themed poems as points of departure for several other musical selections as well. That and more, this afternoon on Blue Lake Public Radio.
You can hear Foley Schuler's musical selections—andstories behind the music—every weekday afternoon from 1 until 4 on Blue Lake Public Radio.
