Steve Albert caught up with Dr. Rodney Dorsey last week to talk about his annual visit to Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. Dr. Dorsey led a great concert by the Festival Band on July 26 (you can find the full concert here on our website).
He will also lead the Staff Band in a concert on Friday night which will include music by Malcolm Arnold and Julie Giroux. This year's Begian Scholar, Dr. Christopher Ramos, will lead the band in the "American Hymnsong Suite" by Dwayne S. Milburn.
Dr. Ramos is the Director of Bands at Utah Valley University where he also trains future music educators. This is his third season working at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp.
Dr. Dorsey is Professor of Music at Florida State University, where he conducts the FSU Wind Orchestra and guides the graduate wind conducting program. He previously held faculty positions at Indiana University, the University of Oregon, the University of Michigan, DePaul University, and Northwestern University, and gained extensive experience teaching in Florida and Georgia public schools.
We invite you out to camp to hear the Staff Band's performance. It starts at 7:15 p.m. Friday, July 31, in Blue Lake's Stewart Shell. The concert will be broadcast in its entirety starting at 8 p.m. here on Blue Lake Public Radio.
