New York Philharmonic in concert

The New York Philharmonic came to the airwaves in 1922 as a media pioneer. Since its first live national radio broadcast, over the CBS network on October 5, 1930, the Orchestra has enjoyed an almost continuous presence on national radio. We are pleased to link you up with this grand tradition every Friday night as the The New York Philharmonic This Week broadcasts at 8 p.m. here on Blue Lake Public Radio.

The New York Philharmonic This Week features select recent performances as well as programs curated from the Orchestra’s archives and commercial recordings. The series’ honors have included the Grand Jury Prize at the New York Festivals International Broadcast Competition and multiple top prizes for Best Director, Best Sound, and Best Regularly Scheduled Music Program from The New York Festivals, the AVA Digital Awards, and the Hermes Creative Awards. Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actor Alec Baldwin is the host, New York Philharmonic Director of Media Production Mark Travis is the writer and producer with assistance from Associate Producer Ian Good, and New York Philharmonic Audio Director Lawrence Rock is the engineer for the series. The Executive Producer is Julie Kim.

Klay came into radio as a volunteer folk music host on a small public radio station in Ft. Dodge (IA) in the late ’80s. He became Director of Broadcasting for Blue Lake in 2022. You will hear Klay filling in from time to time where needed.
