Farewell to Bill McGlaughlin

Host of "Exploring Music" has died.

Bill McGlaughlin, the Peabody Award-winning musician, educator, composer, conductor, and founding host of WFMT’s internationally syndicated radio series Exploring Music, has died, leaving behind an extraordinary legacy that transformed how generations of listeners discover and appreciate classical music.

For more than two decades, McGlaughlin’s voice was synonymous with curiosity, storytelling, and musical discovery through Exploring Music. Since its debut on 98.7 WFMT in 2003, the weekday series guided audiences through the world of classical music one theme at a time, weaving together composers, history, literature, cultures, and great works into engaging weekly journeys that welcomed seasoned enthusiasts and first-time listeners alike.

You can read his full obituary from WFMT HERE.

McGlaughlin had made plans to step away from his weekly program and we will be able to share more about that transition soon. In the meantime, we will continue to hear Bill's voice here on Blue Lake Public Radio.

Klay came into radio as a volunteer folk music host on a small public radio station in Ft. Dodge (IA) in the late ’80s. He became Director of Broadcasting for Blue Lake in 2022. You will hear Klay filling in from time to time where needed.
