As the world continues to mourn the death of beloved actor Sam Neill earlier in the week–and tributes continue to pour in from across the world of film, and beyond—we'll enjoy music associated with some of his greatest roles on this week's program–including the Piano Concerto that Michael Nyman based on his music for the film The Piano, and an extended suite drawn from John Williams' score to Jurassic Park. Prior to his Hollywood breakthrough he had been a leading figure in the New Zealand New Wave of Cinema, and would always remain true to his Kiwi roots, which we will honor with music from some of the leading classical composers of New Zealand–including works by such foundational figures as Douglas Lilburn and Dame Gillian Whitehead, as well as a performance by the famed New Zealand soprano (of Maori descent), Dame Kiri the Kanewa. Also, with the White Lake Chamber Music Festival up and running through the week to come, we'll also be showcasing a performance from last year's festival of the wonderful and rarely heard Terzetto in C major for strings, Op. 74, by Antonín Dvořák—all coming on this week's on Sunday on Blue Lake with Foley Schuler.
