Xabier Anduaga as Elvino and Nadine Sierra as Amina in Bellini's "La Sonnambula."

No one is sleep-walking through this repertoire favorite!

This week, we will enjoy "La Sonnambula" by Vincenzo Bellini in a performance captured on October 18, 2025. Riccardo Frizza leads a cast that features Nadine Sierra as Amina and Xabier Anduaga as Elvino with Alexander Vinogradov (Rodolfo) and Sydney Mancasola (Lisa).

"La Sonnambula" came into the world at the Teatro Carcano, Milan, in 1831. This operatic gem from one of the great masters of melody is a benchmark of extraordinary vocalism. The title role of the sleepwalking girl was composed for the greatest diva of the day, Giuditta Pasta (for whom Bellini also wrote the tragic role of Norma). The part requires a rare combination of innocence, charm, and breathtaking vocal virtuosity. With a plot that revolves around jealousy and misunderstanding in a small alpine village - "La Sonnambula" reaches its conclusion through genuine, poignant character development, rather than by intrigue or farce.

Join us for "La Sonnambula" Saturday, April 25, at 1 p.m. here on Blue Lake Public Radio.
