The next "Detroit Symphony Live!" broadcast features cellist Alisa Weilerstein performing a concerto that was written for her by American composer Joan Tower. Tower’s work (called "A New Day") shows a range of influences, from the rhythms she heard during her childhood in South America to the driving pulse found in the music of Beethoven—whose energetic Fourth Symphony concludes the concert. Jader Bignamini will open the program with "Three Latin American Dances" by Gabriela Lena Frank.
The music starts at 10:40 a.m. here on Blue Lake Public Radio.
