On this annual Christmas (and this year, also Winter Solstice) edition of the show, host Foley Schuler will present what has become an annual tradition: poet Dylan Thomas reading from his beloved masterpiece, "A Child's Christmas in Wales," along with various classical sounds of the season.

Highlights this week include the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet's rendition The Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky and a Christmas Carol Symphony by Victor Hely-Hutchinson. Our special presentation of Dylan Thomas reading of A Child's Christmas in Wales (coming up in our final hour), will be complimented by our musical centerpiece and major work: Mahler's Symphony No. 4 (which also gives a child's view of sorts); And, as this year’s show, happens to coincide with the Winter Solstice, we’ll enjoy some magical evocations of winter by Mark O’Connor, Astor Piazzolla (our winter being his summer, which begins today in his native Argentina) and, of course, Vivaldi.

You can hear Sunday on Blue Lake with Foley Schuler every Sunday morning from 9 until noon on Blue Lake Public Radio.

Encouraged by creative parents, Foley began his music career at age 7, studying violin with Jean Manning at North Muskegon Public Schools. As a Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp camper, he became Blue Lake Public Radio’s first high school intern. Foley earned an English Literature degree from Hope College, and Masters in Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from the Warren Wilson College. He has performed with the West Michigan (formerly West Shore) Symphony; served on the English Department faculty at Muskegon Community College, and been the Music, Art & Theatre reviewer for the Muskegon Chronicle. He follows his love of the arts around the globe, but says, “There is no place like the Blue Lake setting, sharing extraordinary music with our listeners.” Foley hosts Blue Lake Public Radio’s weekday classical music from 1 to 4 p.m. and “Sunday on Blue Lake”.
