Falcone Festival celebrates 40 years

The venerable competition and gathering for tuba and euphonium performers is this week.

What began as a way to honor a favorite teacher has become an event that draws musicians to the Michigan woods every year. This summer's Falcone Festival marks 40 years of the gathering with concerts, recitals, and master classes running from August 8 through the 11th. Dr. Fernando Deddos and Albert Khattar are the featured guest soloists. They will perform with Dr. Trae Blanco and the Blue Lake Festival Band in a public concert Sunday, August 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Stewart Shell at Blue Lake that will be broadcast live on Blue Lake Public Radio.

Dr. Leonard Falcone served on the faculty of Michigan State University for 53 years. He was Director of Bands, Chairman of the Winds and Brass Department and Professor of Baritone Horn. He also had a long tenure at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp as a summer faculty member and as an honorary trustee. More details about the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Festival can be found HERE.
