Billy Wilder's cinematic skewering of Hollywood is one of the glories of film. Never has "biting the hand that feeds you" been rendered with greater artistry and dazzling results, than in this relentlessly dark (and yet searingly comic) tale of an out of work screenwriter who, blowing a tire while fleeing his creditors, pulls into the driveway of a long-forgotten star of the silent-film era with fateful results. Released in August of 1950, Sunset Boulevard is back in theaters this week for the film's 75th anniversary, and, in honor of the occasion, Foley Schuler will feature Franx Waxman's brilliant music for the film, and other related selections, Friday afternoon.
You can hear Foley Schuler's musical selections—and stories behind the music—every weekday afternoon from 1 until 4 on Blue Lake Public Radio.
