Listen to the recordings that made Ella Fitzgerald famous on today's Jazz from Blue Lake stream.

"A-Tisket, A-Tasket," and "Undecided" were songs a teenage Ella Fitzgerald recorded with drummer Chick Webb's Orchestra that started her career, and pairings with Louis Armstrong, The Ink Spots and The Delta Rhythm Boys set the stage for her solo career. After touring with the Dizzy Gillespie band she added scat sung romps to the set list ("Flyin' Home," "How High The Moon," "Lady Be Good") and became more than a girl singer but began an artistic climb that put her atop the list of premier musicians in the 20th Century. You only need one word to know: Ella.

Please join Blue Lake Public Radio's jazz stream today for music by Ella Fitzgerald. Found here www.bluelakeradio.org. The blue bar that shows what's on the air now has a tile that says "All Streams," or, if you're on a smart phone, a star like icon to the right of the blue streaming bar. Click those to find the Jazz From Blue Lake stream, click that and we're swinging.

Happy Independence Day!

Blue Lake Public Radio’s “Jazz Director” Lazaro Vega started at Blue Lake in March of 1983, 8 months after Bob Hope spoke the first station I.D. ever heard on the air from Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. In 2018, Lazaro was nominated for the The Bobby Jackson Award by JazzWeek.com as Programmer of the Year. This honor is voted on by people who promote jazz record airplay and keep Blue Lake in new releases. For more about Lazaro, see his recent interview with Local Spins.
