Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau was truly one of the most indelible voices of our time—and of all time. As a master of the operatic stage and, especially, of the German art-song tradition, the baritone brought a special depth, humanity and expressiveness to every note, and every word, he touched. This week, as we celebrate the centenary of this legendary singer on Sunday on Blue Lake, Foley Schuler will feature, in each of the show's three hours, some compelling performance given by "Fidi" (as he was affectionately known), including as the father, Schlendrian, in Bach's charming "Coffee Cantata," and teaming up with pianist Jörg Demus for selections from Schubert's magnificent Winterreise, and with Leonard Bernstein on the piano for four Rückert-Lieder by Gustav Mahler.
You can hear Sunday on Blue Lake with Foley Schuler every Sunday morning from 9 until noon on Blue Lake Public Radio.
