April 15 was the anniversary of the musician and activist's birth. Catch up on our jazz stream if you missed the show Tuesday night.

Now you don't have to wait until 10 p.m. to hear Jazz from Blue Lake. Last evening #BlueLakePublicRadio celebrated the recorded legacy of bassist Richard Davis from his work with Don Shirley that took him from Chicago to New York, to his time in the Sarah Vaughn Trio that expanded his world wide reputation, to the many Blue Note Record sessions he appeared on in 1964 alone, and so much more. We also heard extensive sets featuring bassist Christian McBride, saxophonist Joe Henderson and pianist Chick Corea. Today that 5 hour broadcast is streaming from right here on www.bluelakeradio.org . Here’s hoping you’ll join us. Click “All Streams” to find our jazz stream. If you're using a smart phone, click the star like icon to the right of the blue bar offering the live stream, then navigate to the jazz stream.

Blue Lake Public Radio’s “Jazz Director” Lazaro Vega started at Blue Lake in March of 1983, 8 months after Bob Hope spoke the first station I.D. ever heard on the air from Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. In 2018, Lazaro was nominated for the The Bobby Jackson Award by JazzWeek.com as Programmer of the Year. This honor is voted on by people who promote jazz record airplay and keep Blue Lake in new releases. For more about Lazaro, see his recent interview with Local Spins.
