Saxophonist Harry Allen

Harry Allen and Jon Erik Kellso will perform with Ehud Asherie Friday night in Hart.

"Stan Getz was once asked his idea of the perfect tenor saxophone soloist. His answer was, 'My technique, Al Cohn's ideas, and Zoot's time.' The fulfillment of that ideal may well be embodied in... Harry Allen." - Gene Lees, jazz writer and lyricist. Saxophonist Harry Allen joins trumpeter Jon-Erik Kellso and pianist Ehud Asherie Friday night in the Hart Performing Arts Series. Tonight Jazz From Blue Lake features the mainstream tenor man's many recordings (over 70 as a leader) during the first part of each hour, 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. edt, and streaming tomorrow here on our web site and over the Blue Lake Public Radio app.

Blue Lake Public Radio’s “Jazz Director” Lazaro Vega started at Blue Lake in March of 1983, 8 months after Bob Hope spoke the first station I.D. ever heard on the air from Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. In 2018, Lazaro was nominated for the The Bobby Jackson Award by JazzWeek.com as Programmer of the Year. This honor is voted on by people who promote jazz record airplay and keep Blue Lake in new releases. For more about Lazaro, see his recent interview with Local Spins.
