After three long tours with his working band in 2024, trumpeter Jeremy Pelt recorded his 24th album as a leader, "Woven," which embraces ambient textures via electronics as well as straight ahead classics such as Kenny Dorham's "Fair Weather." Pelt's band is drawn from former students at William Patterson University in New Jersey. On his previous album with drummer and technologist Deantoni Parks, Pelt was challenged to "think outside of myself." "Woven" continues the musical conversation this time with Jared Spears on drums and special guest Marie-Ann Hedonia on synthesizer; Jalen Baker, vibraphone; Misha Mendelenko, guitar; Leighton Harrell, basses, and Mar Vilaseca, voice. Please join Jazz From Blue Lake Tonight after 10 p.m. EDT when we hear recordings by Jeremy Pelt in the first part of each hour. This broadcast repeats tomorrow on the Jazz From Blue Lake stream.

Blue Lake Public Radio’s “Jazz Director” Lazaro Vega started at Blue Lake in March of 1983, 8 months after Bob Hope spoke the first station I.D. ever heard on the air from Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. In 2018, Lazaro was nominated for the The Bobby Jackson Award by JazzWeek.com as Programmer of the Year. This honor is voted on by people who promote jazz record airplay and keep Blue Lake in new releases. For more about Lazaro, see his recent interview with Local Spins.
