The Kalamazoo Valley Museum recently celebrated and explored the work of the great master of stop-motion animation, the legendary Ray Harryhausen, with “Ray Harryhausen: Miniature Models of the Silver Screen.” Though the exhibition ended on April 26, many out there—including afternoon host Foley Schuler—are still basking in its magic. Essential to the impact of Harryhausen's work was, so often, the music of the great Bernard Herrmann. Friday afternoon, Foley will feature music from Herrmann's scores to several Harryhausen masterworks—including The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad, Jason and the Argonauts and Mysterious Island—as well as a beloved work from the symphonic repertoire that would have a lasting influence on Harryhausen, Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade.
You can hear Foley Schuler's musical selections—and stories behind the music—every weekday afternoon on Blue Lake Public Radio.
